General Phylosophy
Generally, sustainable development is hinged on the capacity of Government and private sector participants to contribute meaningfully and positively to national development. In developing economies, the need for private sector participants especially Businesses to contribute to national development cannot be over-emphasized. This is mainly because Government alone cannot effectively deliver development needs and goals of a society.
The B.Sc. Business Administration Programme is designed to train students and equip them with the skills to successfully manage Business Organizations in a globalised, dynamic and highly competitive Business world. Thus, graduates of the Federal University Gusau B.Sc. Business Administration Programme could fit into middle and top level management positions in all private sector organization and in relevant Departments in the Public sector. The Programme is also designed to provide students with the necessary skills and creativity to start their own Businesses and become self-employed.
In pursuance of the above, the following specific features have been incorporated into the programme:
- Common foundation General Studies courses at 100 and 200 levels for all students.
- Excursions, seminar presentations and tutorials.
- Entrepreneurial/Entrepreneurship studies to equip students for world of work and self-employment.
- Special skills and in-depth study in particular areas of the Programme through taking relevant elective courses and final year seminar topics.
- Final year field-work project in which the student work alone under supervision.
- Adequate knowledge in the areas of marketing, production, human resources, finance, accounting, economics and other relevant subjects in the social and management sciences
Nomenclature of Degree in View
The Department shall for now provide three undergraduate academic programs. The nomenclature of the degrees in view shall be: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Microbiology; Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Plant Science and Biotechnology; and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Zoology.

OBJECTIVES
The aim of this Programme, B.Sc. Business Administration is to train managers of Business organizations that can become successful in a globalised and competitive world.
The specific objectives of the Programme are:
- To provide the basic knowledge needed for an understanding and analysis of problems related to the management of industrial, commercial, Public and other human organizations.
- To equip students of Business with the analytical skills needed for recognizing and defining problems and taking appropriate decisions, using scientific techniques and tools
- To inculcate in students an awareness and sensitivity to environmental factors and conditions and their impact on managerial practice and decisions.
- To develop in them leadership and interpersonal relations skills which are needed for working in both local and international organizations.
These objectives reflect the elective and social characteristics of Business education and they determine the academic contents of the minimum standard set for the department.
The general entry requirements for admission into B.Sc. degree programme in Business Administration are as follow:
- (SSCE) candidates must have five credit including Mathematics, English Language, Economics or Commerce, Government and any other Social Science subject.
- (UTME) candidate must score the minimum point required as prescribed by the University Authority.
- (DE) candidate must have National Diploma in Business Administration or it’s related discipline from a recognized institution with upper credit division.
